Programming for sanitation and hygiene in challenging contexts

This session will focus on current experiences and evidence of implementing in challenging contexts. It will draw on a collaborative piece of work being undertaken by the Sanitation Learning Hub, UNICEF and WaterAid which aims to develop practical resources for sanitation programmes operating in particular challenging contexts.

These include households and communities:

  • Experiencing extreme poverty and marignalisation
  • With entrenched attitudes and social beliefs
  • Living in touch physical environments
  • With lifestyles and livelihoods making consistent toilet use challenging in fragile contexts

The objectives of the session are to:

  • Share findings from a recent report on sanitation programming in challenging contexts
  • Provide space for debate and discussion
  • Gather inputs and support for the development of guidance resources

This event will be live with short presentations followed by questions and inputs from participants. The session will also include break-out rooms and group discussions.
