Proceedings of the 42nd WEDC International Conference

Based at the Institute of Development Studies, the Sanitation Learning Hub is a participatory and action-oriented programme aimed at promoting and facilitating timely, relevant and actionable learning and research in the sanitation and hygiene sector.

We do this by:

• Co-convening global, regional and thematic workshops for reflecting, sharing and learning
• Developing ‘Rapid Action Learning’ (RAL) participatory approaches and methodologies
• Co-producing action-orientated research, publications and tools
• Providing timely digital communications via our website, newsletter and social media

Our approach cuts across organisational and geographical barriers, encouraging honest reflections of what works and what does not outside of people’s usual silos. Our mission is to enable the sector to innovate, adapt and collaborate in a rapidly evolving landscape, feeding research and learning into policies and practice.

Some of our recent work includes:

• Examining rural sanitation programming in challenging contexts
• Supporting participatory approaches to ensure no is left behind
• Documenting and analysing positive examples of sub-national leadership
• Looking at how the sector has adapted to the pandemic
• Addressing the gap in rural sanitation and climate change thinking
• Reflecting on lessons learned from national sanitation campaigns
